Transferring a Domain Name
Whether you place an order by telephone or via our online order form, be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain.
We will send you the necessary information during the setup of your account to help you transfer the domain name to our servers.
You should keep the service at the present site while waiting for the transfer to complete. We will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror the site on our server. All email and web pages will still be accessed from the current site. When your name server information has been updated all internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This is called propagation. Propagation is usually completed in about 72 hours from this point, where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact the previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site until they update their DNS.
It is very important that you use the same company name and address on the Order Form as that which is on file for your domain record. If the company name differs from that which is on file, the current registrar will treat the transfer as a delete/new (see below), and will not allow the transfer to be completed.
I have purchased my domain name from another company. How can I update the information at my current registrar?
In order to transfer a domain name from one organization to another you will need to login to your Domain Registration Control Panel at your current registrar. You will need to update the Nameserver records for your domain name to point to our Nameservers. Please contact support to obtain this information if you do not already have it.
