What is Virtual Web Hosting?

Virtual Web Hosting provides you with a home for your web site on our web servers and allows you to establish a presence on the Internet. We will register your own domain name for you which will become your unique address on the World Wide Web. Having your own domain name does not suggest that you are renting web space, and, since email can be addressed to your domain (eg. WWW.YOURNAME.COM) you will not have to announce a new email address if you change internet providers.

Do you offer dial-up internet access?

No, you will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve email addressed to your site. Providing a specialized service means that we do not have hundreds of modems to maintain enabling us to devote more time to our customers and to the addition of enhancements to the entire site. Our web servers are dedicated to website hosting and are connected to the Internet via multiple fiber optic connections to ensure a high level of performance.

How do I transfer files to my web site?

Files must be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP) or by using Microsoft FrontPage. If you have an internet account and need FTP software, you can download a program for either the PC or Mac from our site. Internet providers such as AOL may have a built-in FTP interface. An FTP tutorial is available for first time users.

Will I have unlimited access to update my pages?

You have unlimited access to your website via FTP 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your leisure.

Can I use my account for commercial purposes ?

Yes, you can use your account for commercial purposes. The World Wide Web has become a most efficient and cost-effective means of making information available to the users of the internet community. If selected, secure processing is available which provides an environment whereby payment information (such as credit card numbers) can be transmitted from web browser to web server in an encrypted mode.

Can I resell space within my own account ?

Yes. You can resell space within your account. However, you will be responsible for its content and data transfer. It will not be possible to acquire multiple account passwords for FTP access.

Do you accept international orders ?

Yes. We are pleased to have customers around the world and we're as close as your computer. If desired, we can host non-US domain name extensions. We can even register most foreign domains on your behalf, however sometimes customers will be required to apply for the domain registration or transfer with the local governing authority.

What contract and payment terms are available?

We bill at quarterly increments and require a minimum three month contract for all plans except the Platinum plan. Dedicated servers typically are 1-year contracts and are billed monthly. We accept American Express, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover cards as well as checks and money orders. Wire transfers and foreign currency checks do carry surcharges. Do you offer technical support to customers ?

Yes. We encourage our customers to send email to support@broadspire.com with questions or concerns about their web site. We are very quick to respond to support email 24 hours a day. You should always to remember to include a few things when sending email to us for support.

How long does it take to set up a new account ?

Orders submitted before 6pm which include payment information will be processed before the end of the next business day! Once an account is set up an activation notice will be sent you via email including a userid, password, and FTP hostname. Since all initial correspondence is done via email, you must be sure to include a valid email address when you sign up, otherwise you may not receive your account information. You can begin uploading files to your new web site immediately upon notification. Domain account users will be given a temporary URL to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either domain registration or transfer.

How do I place an order ?

You can place an order for a Virtual domain account securely and directly from our web site 24 hours a day. All orders are received and processed immediately, and you will receive a confirmation as well as account information via email.

Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the WWW?

Yes, you will be able to access the domain name with or without the WWW in front. For example, you could access the domain name "mydomain.com" by going to "www.mydomain.com" as well as "mydomain.com".

How long does it take before my domain name is active?

Once your domain is registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This is called propagation.

What is the fee for domain registration?

BroadSpire registers domain for as low as $25 per year. This fee covers the first year. Once a domain is registered, you will be given a control panel where you can access the domain name, modify contact information, and more.

How is email setup for the account initially?

By default, ALL mail is set up to automatically forward to the email address that was provided when your account was set up. This email address is called the "default" mail forwarding address. This address can be changed in Email Settings within your Control Panel. By default, you do not need to set specific forwarding options for specific addresses associated with your domain name. (e.g. webmaster@yourname.com, sales@yourname.com, etc.) as long as you want any and all email addressed to your domain name to go to your default email address.You can easily do this from your account Control Panel. Please note, all email options in the control panel are not effective immediately upon changing them. They are processed during the next scheduled batch job running on that day.

*Additional mail forwarding fields can be added at a rate of $2 per month.

What directory and file names are acceptable?

Our operating system is case sensitive. In other words, the file name "faq.html" is NOT the same as "FAQ.html". If your HTML code references a faq.html, but the actual file name is in uppercase, this will result in a File Not Found error. This applies to directory names as well.

To prevent errors, we suggest naming all files in lowercase. Spaces and special control characters are generally not a good idea. The underscore character ("_") is acceptable. You should avoid special characters (e.g. ! @ # $ % ^ & * : ') in file names. We suggest that you keep the length of file names to a minimum. The tilde (~) cannot be used in directory or file names.

Can I change my userid and password?

The userid is derived from a mix of characters of your domain name and cannot be changed. However, you can change your password by emailing support. Valid passwords consist of no more than eight alphabetic and/or numeric characters.
